Yak Kayote to develop VoIP11 December 2004
Yak Communications Inc., a provider of telecommunication services to residential and business customers, has announced that it has signed a strategic technology agreement with Kayote Networks, Inc. to provide Yak with advanced Voice over Internet Protocol technology to develop and enhance its VoIP offerings. The company is planning to start actively marketing its VoIP products and services during January.
Under the terms of the agreement, Kayote will provide Yak with advanced VoIP systems, including Network Address Translation detection and traversal, protocol cleanup and conversion, CODEC enforcement, demarcation (IP hiding), VoIP security, caller identification and authorization, advanced ENUM services and call set up enhancement. These technologies overcome interoperability obstacles that have limited the market penetration of VoIP services to date.
"This agreement will provide Yak with a speed-to-market advantage for implementing state-of-the-art solutions to a host of issues that have been inhibiting market acceptance of VoIP services," YAK CEO Charles Zwebner said. "We believe that our VoIP products and services can generate significant incremental revenues by capitalizing on the growing acceptance of Internet-based telephone services."
The collaboration is designed to produce systems for Yak's current and future VoIP initiatives. Although VoIP is established in terms of the technology and the business case, interoperability, security, and advanced features are still open issues, and Kayote says it can address them in conjunction with Yak.
