UHS Launches Broadband Security Alarm Service in the United States

15 November 2005

UHS Systems, Inc. today announced the launch of its UltraSec(TM) broadband network in the United States, providing high-quality security alarm monitoring transport over an encrypted, redundant Internet Protocol (IP) network. UHS' security alarm services meet the changing needs of home and business owners that use voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone service, allowing them to maintain critical alarm functionality. The UltraSec(TM) network provides alarm monitoring companies the capability to send and receive alarm monitoring data and integrated video alarm events over a broadband circuit, eliminating the need for a traditional telephone line. Homeowners and businesses that switch to VoIP telephone service may not recognize the loss of alarm monitoring service that can occur. By using UHS' broadband network through a third-party alarm monitoring company, they are able to maintain their voice-over IP phone service without sacrificing the protection and dispatch services offered in case of an emergency. UHS Systems' IP-based service can operate on any type of broadband connection and includes a digital wireless backup system, protecting customers from loss of service due to broadband outages. UHS can also process video data over its network, enabling seamless video monitoring and premise surveillance for the security alarm industry. "The increasing adoption of VoIP makes a broadband-friendly alarm transport service necessary to ensure that monitoring companies remain able to receive data that allows the dispatch of help to customers in case of an emergency," said Jack McCurdy, General Manager of U.S. Operations for UHS Systems. "Our UltraSec(TM) IP security alarm service allows any alarm company to provide a range of IP security services, from basic IP security alarm communication all the way to transforming a basic alarm panel installation into a high value security alarm system with IP signaling, integrated video alarm events and digital wireless redundancy." The core architecture of UHS Systems' network resides at an AT&T Internet Data Center (IDC). The IDC acts as the hub for all of UHS Systems' North American alarm transport activity, and enables UHS to offer its new, Internet Protocol (IP) -- based security alarm transport service. "We're pleased to support UHS Systems as it launches its U.S. network and services," said Dave Albano, Vice President of Sales for AT&T. "There is great demand for security services over IP, and UHS is filling a gap that is much- needed in the marketplace." UHS Systems provides a variety of transport monitoring services over its UltraSec network to help meet the demands of the alarm industry as it operates in a broadband environment. To learn more about UHS' network and services, visit http://www.uhsus.com or contact your local alarm monitoring company. About UHS Systems UHS Systems is an Australian company that designs, develops and manufactures broadband security access solutions. The UltraSec(TM) platform was developed specifically to meet a growing need within the Australian alarm industry for a non-proprietary, highly featured and secure broadband network communications service. UHS recently expanded its presence into the United States, establishing its North American headquarters in Atlanta, GA.
