Telecorp Selects iBasis for International Voice Services16 June 2005
iBasis, Inc. (OTCBB: IBAS), a leader in international long distance, VoIP, and prepaid calling cards, announced today at the CommunicAsia 2005 conference that Telecorp, a leading prepaid service provider in Australia, has interconnected with The iBasis Network(TM) for international voice services. The interconnection with iBasis enables Telecorp to route international voice traffic over The iBasis Network, the leading global VoIP network, as well as complete calls for iBasis over the Telecorp network in Australia.
Telecorp is taking advantage of iBasis' PremiumCertified(TM) international routing product, which is specifically designed to deliver the highest quality and stability for international termination of calls originated by retail consumers. PremiumCertified features more than 700 routes that are actively monitored and managed to deliver quality that meets or exceeds retail quality benchmarks. Through a direct IP interconnect, retail carriers can fully leverage iBasis VoIP expertise including sophisticated network performance monitoring and call routing systems based on the company's patent-pending Assured Quality Routing technology.
Telecorp is also benefiting from the lower capital and operational costs of VoIP and will have immediate access to iBasis' global VoIP network, which comprises more than 100 on-net countries. The relationship with Telecorp provides iBasis with greater opportunity to capture a significant share of the more than three billion minutes of annual international traffic that originates in Australia.
"One of the major trends changing the global telecommunications landscape today is the rapid migration of voice traffic from large international exchange carriers to local service providers," said Ofer Gneezy, president and CEO of iBasis. "By leveraging our traffic exchange relationships with hundreds of carriers around the world, local service providers like Telecorp are able to deliver high quality international service while continuing to focus on growing their portfolio of consumer services and market share."
"As the leading provider of prepaid services to consumers and businesses in Australia, we wanted to work with a global provider that shared our commitment to high quality and customer service," said Steve Picton, Telecorp CEO. "With their VoIP expertise and global footprint, iBasis is also able to help us grow and expand our target audience in the fast-growing calling card services market."
The interconnection with Telecorp enables iBasis to strengthen its presence in Australia. Paul Budde Communication, a leading independent telecommunications research firm, forecasts the prepaid calling card market in Australia to be approximately $ 300 million in 2006, achieving 36% growth compared to 2004.
