T-com Approves Lucent Technologies Accelerate ™ VoIP Solution14 March 2005
Lucent Technologies ( NYSE:LU ) and T-Com, the fixed line business unit of Deutsche Telekom, have successfully completed their next-generation voice pilot project, named "KONTIP" ( Convergence ISDN to IP ). The joint pilot, announced at CeBIT 2004, received overall acceptance from T-Com in February 2005. Following the success of "KONTIP", T-Com, together with Lucent, will begin to define and test possible Voice over Internet Protocol ( VoIP ) services for its customers.
The "KONTIP" pilot project, announced at CeBIT 2004, was designed to test packet-based voice services on an IP-based network. Now, with T-Com's approval, the Lucent equipment used in the trial is ready to be incorporated into the operator's next-generation network. With its "KONTIP"-based infrastructure, T-Com will be able to offer new blended voice and data services, combining multimedia and unified communications applications, IP Centrex, and voice and data virtual private networks.
"We are delighted to have helped T-Com define the technical foundations of its next-generation IP network," said Janet Davidson, president of Lucent Technologies' Integrated Network Solutions ( INS ) business. "Lucent is committed to working with T-Com to create more revenue-generating services on its network for T-Com customers."
The KONTIP pilot also resulted in T-Com's acceptance of the Lucent Network Controller and Lucent Network Gateway VoIP solution from Lucent's Accelerate™ Next-Generation Communications portfolio. These connected T-Com's switched telephone network ( PSTN ) with an IP-based NGN infrastructure and enabled both infrastructures to work together seamlessly.
Lucent is demonstrating business and residential IP-based services over the "KONTIP" platform on its CeBIT booth.
