Syndesis Enables Service Providers to Meet Competition Head On2 February 2005
Syndesis today proudly announces its newest Ethernet software suite that enables Communications Service Providers (CSPs) to meet the competition head on. CSPs around the world are rapidly expanding Ethernet's role in their networks and service portfolios to enable the transport needs of bandwidth-hungry services like Triple Play and Transparent LAN. In order to meet fierce competition and "raise the bar" in this new arena, CSPs are faced with the daunting task of launching complex, transaction-intensive services to a demanding marketplace quickly and cost-effectively. Syndesis' Ethernet software suite meets those demands and helps the CSP by accelerating mass deployment of Ethernet-based service offerings across traditional and next generation networks. This solution also integrates with the Syndesis IPTV, VoIP, Transparent LAN and DSL offerings to enable the industry's only true end-to-end activation and design engine covering Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies in a dynamic network.
Developed with major carriers and equipment vendors around the world, the Syndesis Ethernet solution suite provides a remarkably unique service delivery for "xLAN over any transport." Insulating operators from the underlying complexities inherent in provisioning end-to-end connections, Syndesis' Ethernet software operates over any transport infrastructure, even those with different Quality of Service (QoS) for each subscriber and service.
Syndesis' carrier-class Ethernet offering claims title to the industry's only cross-domain, multi-vendor, service lifecycle management solution for Ethernet-based services -- delivered on one integrated platform.
This release evolves Syndesis' Ethernet software to include support for:
-- Ethernet line (E-Line) and Ethernet LAN (E-LAN); -- 10 through 10000 BaseT Ethernet Service; and, -- All recently released leading Ethernet devices from MSPP through Layer 2 access and transport equipment to Layer 1 transport devices. "We're really fortunate to have been an Ethernet pioneer four years ago," said Mark Nicholson, Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Product Development for Syndesis. "For years, our solutions have helped service providers streamline delivery of Ethernet-based services. We were one of the first vendors to deliver GigE service provisioning solutions to access providers in 2000. We have also successfully deployed solutions for IP VLAN services, Layer 2 TLAN services and Layer 1 Ethernet over SONET services. Our solution maturity and field experience make Syndesis the ideal partner for service providers looking to enhance their Ethernet capabilities."
Ethernet's flexibility, potential bandwidth efficiencies and ubiquity in consumer and enterprise equipment are securing the technology's place with large CSPs. U.S. carrier revenue from Ethernet services will reach approximately $4 billion in 2008, a 1000% increase from 2003, according to the Yankee Group. The Probe Group sees similar Ethernet growth in Europe, with service revenues hitting $5 billion by 2008. Realizing expected Ethernet-based service volumes, and meeting the quality demands of end-users, however, depends in large part on the right provisioning solution. This is where today's costly, manual procedures and technology-specific provisioning models fall significantly short.
"Ethernet is not just some niche technology for service providers. Its carrier deployments are very real today and growing rapidly. As Ethernet technology continues to evolve and its deployments increase, the complexities of provisioning Ethernet-based services will be compounded -- from keeping pace with emerging standards and vendor-specific implementations to meeting service quality requirements for the various applications that Ethernet-based services support," said Sanjay Mewada, Vice President, Communications Infrastructure and Software for the Yankee Group. "To date, CSPs have relied extensively on highly-skilled engineers and piecemeal provisioning to deliver fledgling Ethernet-based service. But to ensure the delivery of true carrier-class Ethernet services and scale those services for mass acceptance, CSPs must automate and ultimately integrate their processes. This means using a solution that spans multiple domains, guarantees QoS end-to-end, keeps pace with devices and features that are still maturing, and shields users from underlying network complexity and change."
Powerful, Proven Ethernet Provisioning
Over the past five years, Syndesis has provided Ethernet-based fulfillment solutions to several of the world's leading service providers. With this latest release, Syndesis is pioneering the next generation in Ethernet service provisioning; combining the power, experience and knowledge of its previous TLAN/VLAN provisioning solution with the ability to deliver Ethernet-based value-added services (from Storage Area Networking and VoIP to residential "Triple Play" and online gaming), across any transport network. Designed for integration, Syndesis' solution enables service providers to introduce new Ethernet services within existing operational processes and, at the same time, reduce risks associated with a still maturing market. The solution suite also provides centralized management of both new and existing Ethernet services, regardless of how they were provisioned, enabling operators to maintain an accurate and integrated view of networks, services and service quality definitions while easing the migration to a more automated OSS environment.
The latest release of the Syndesis Ethernet solution suite -- which includes Syndesis® NetProvision™ for Ethernet, Syndesis® NetDiscover™ for Ethernet and Syndesis® NetOptimizer™ for Ethernet -- provides the following features and functionality:
-- Integrated, single-point provisioning of Ethernet services across traditional and next-generation networks, including Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3 transport infrastructure; -- Support for both Ethernet Line (E-Line) and Ethernet LAN (E-LAN) services (as defined by Metro Ethernet Forum), enabling providers to support a wide variety of Private Line, Internet Access, VPN and Transparent LAN services; -- Out-of-the-box multi-vendor support for leading next-gen Ethernet devices, Multi-Service Provisioning Platforms (MSPP), Layer 2 access and transport equipment and Layer 1 transport devices from Alcatel, Cisco, Nortel, Sycamore, Lucent, Marconi and others. Syndesis' Equipment Module portfolio features support for more than 200 types & models of network equipment; -- Extensive network upload, service discovery, and discrepancy analysis and reporting capabilities; and, -- Automated bulk service migration capabilities - e.g., to automatically migrate existing customers from traditional data services onto carrier- class Ethernet services or to move large volumes of services to enable equipment swaps within limited maintenance windows - with minimal service disruption. "The Syndesis Ethernet solution suite is designed to adapt to CSPs' changing networks and service offerings. The solution's flexibility makes it possible for service providers to keep pace with Ethernet's evolving standards, easily adjust their network architectures, and ultimately realize the full potential of Ethernet to enable greater profit margins through service differentiation, operational efficiency and lower capital costs," added Nicholson.
