Over 50? Snowbirds? Got Grandkids? Then Start VoIPing16 April 2006
Vonage Canada, a leading provider of Internet phone service, announced today their relationship with CARP, Canada's Association for the Fifty-Plus, which will provide a special offer to CARP members who sign up for Vonage's leading Internet phone service. "The telephone remains the best way for seniors to stay in touch with family and friends, whether they travel south for the winter, go to the cottage for the summer, or have grandchildren or family scattered across North America," said Gary McLean, Director, Channel Sales, Vonage Canada. "CARP members can take advantage of Vonage's inexpensive service, including unlimited long distance calling that lets them talk longer but pay less." Vonage Internet phone service is basically the same as traditional home phone service, except calls travel over the Internet instead of the phone network. People make and receive calls the exact same way, using their existing home phone(*). To use Vonage, all that is required is a high-speed Internet connection, a Vonage phone adapter and a touchtone phone. Simply plug the touchtone phone and the Internet connection into the Vonage phone adapter. There's nothing to download, no software to install, and no technician is required. "If you can plug a phone into a wall jack, you can use Vonage phone service," McLean said. One of the unique features that will appeal to CARP members is the portability of Vonage's service. Simply bring the adapter to a vacation or winter home and connect it to a high-speed Internet connection. Because the home phone number resides inside the adapter, family and friends can call that number no matter where in the world the owner travels - and pay no long distance charges. Similarly, CARP members can make outbound calls as if they were back at home. CARP members will be given the opportunity to sign up for Vonage phone service through the CARP web site at www.CARP.ca. CARP members will receive two months of free service, a Linksys RTP300 phone adapter for no extra charge and the shipping and activation fee will be waived(*). "We are excited to offer our 400,000 members the opportunity to reduce their phone bills and take advantage of the innovative features offered by Vonage's phone service," said Eric Vengroff, vice president, marketing, CARP. "Maintaining close personal relationships can be especially difficult for people over 50 as family and friends often move away to pursue school or professional careers. Vonage helps shrink that distance and helps maintain those relationships by making long distance phone calling more economical for CARP members to keep in touch more often."
