OpenPeak To Demonstrate Thinking Homes System on Verizon One Device at Consumer Electronics Show

6 January 2006

OpenPeak will demonstrate its Thinking Homes system running on a Verizon One communications device at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Verizon One integrates several technologies -- including a DSL modem, 802.11g wireless router, 5.8 Ghz cordless telephone and color touch screen -- on a single desktop appliance that allows users to seamlessly manage all of their communications needs and devices. OpenPeak will demonstrate how its Thinking Homes solution, when used on a device like Verizon One, would allow consumers to control other home electronics devices as well, such as lights, thermostats, and network cameras. Consumers can also use Thinking Homes software to listen to music and view photos and videos stored on their home computers and networks.

A Thinking Homes-enabled system automatically detects devices on a home network and makes them available through a simple, user-friendly, graphical interface. Legacy consumer electronics devices can be made "WiFi aware" with the addition of a simple WiFi to IR bridge. This allows any device that can be controlled with a traditional remote control to be managed by consumer electronic devices like Verizon One from any room in the house.

"The Thinking Homes system can revolutionize the way consumer electronics are used and controlled in today's digital households," said Dan Gittleman, CEO of OpenPeak, "It is the first fully integrated home entertainment, communications and control platform in the market. Our intuitive control and household management system will allow consumers to use a device they already have, such as Verizon One, to create an all-in-one communications and control experience that simplifies their lives and lets them get more out of every device they own."

OpenPeak will be conducting private demonstrations of its Thinking Homes system on the Verizon One phone at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show that opens today in Las Vegas.

About the Thinking Homes System

The Thinking Homes system brings order to the chaos of the growing number of consumer electronics, computing, networking and communications devices in the home. Combining a standards-based architecture and a comprehensive database of IR-controlled consumer electronics devices, and an intuitive, graphical user interface engine, the Thinking Homes system brings the digital home within reach of the average consumer. The components of the system include a lightweight server platform that can run on virtually any always-on device like the Verizon One phone or a cable set top box, intelligent remotes like the new SimpleRemote from OpenPeak and bridge devices that make existing consumer electronics devices WiFi enabled. The user interface, built on OpenPeak's Tango(TM) graphics engine, enables the consumer to configure and manage the system through intuitive experiences like, "Watch DVD" or "Set Lights for Away."

About the Verizon One Phone

Verizon One is the simplicity of a telephone combined with the richness of the Internet. Loaded with a 5.8 GHz cordless telephone, high-speed DSL modem, 802.11g wireless router, and color touch screen, Verizon One simplifies DSL installation and home network setup, clears away the clutter of multiple devices and is configured for Verizon's iobi Home(sm) service that brings together telephone and online communications into one user interface. Verizon One's extensive roster of features includes one-touch dialing, visual voice mail, on-screen memo pad, e-mail previews, scheduled call-forwarding, real-time call management, personal calendar and address book and easily accessed updates on weather, news, sports and entertainment highlights.
