Multi-Tech SIP Survivable IP Server Helps Close IP Centrex Deals25 October 2005
With the increase in hosted Internet Protocol (IP) telephony services being offered by Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSPs) there is an emerging need for effective survivability in Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) systems. The problem is that most available solutions require dedicated hardware that is used only during IP network failures. Multi-Tech(R) Systems is shipping a survivable Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) gateway and server that provides Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) trunking at all times and adds survivability during network failures.
The MultiVOIP(TM) SS Survivable SIP Gateway and Server also will connect to analog telephone handsets and fax machines. The MultiVOIP SS strengthens provider proposals by adding value to end users' locations without adding unused hardware.
Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading data communications and telecommunications company based in suburban Minneapolis, is now shipping the MultiVOIP SS MVP210-SS two-port, MVP410-SS four-port, and MVP810-SS eight-port models.
"As a hosted service provider you need to be very conscientious about keeping your customers in business even when your IP networks are off-line," states Chip Harleman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. "This is particularly important in the case of emergency 911 calls. By installing Multi-Tech Systems' survivable gateway/server at your customer's locations, an IP network failure is an inconvenience -- not a crisis. When the network is down, the MultiVOIP SS handles the survivability tasks and PSTN trunking. That means emergency calls can still be made mitigating the need for additional equipment for that task."
In normal mode: Remote IP phones register with the Central Server/PBX or the MultiVOIP SS and have a full feature set. In survivable mode, the MultiVOIP SS takes full command for local trunking, and provides IP phones with a limited feature set. In both modes analog phones and fax machines can be connected to the MultiVOIP SS's FXS ports.
