Motorola Joins Forum to Advance IP Technology; Shares Expertise through SIP Center Webinars31 March 2005
Founded by Ubiquity Software in 2000, the not-for-profit Center provides an average of 55,000 visitors per month with the tools and resources they need to investigate, develop, test and market new technologies based on SIP. This open signaling protocol is aiding the telecommunications industry in merging wireline or wireless communication sessions with the Internet to create a realm of multimedia services for new 3G networks, including video telephony, chat and multimedia conferencing.
Motorola already is a leading provider of SIP-based solutions, ranging from robust network infrastructure technology to handset devices. Its IMS, based on Motorola’s SoftSwitch platform, offers carriers a highly-scalable system for seamlessly connecting converged VoIP and multimedia applications across a variety of end-user devices and environments. This convergence is enhancing personal collaboration through value-added applications such as Push-To-Talk over Cellular ( PoC ), video conferencing, multimedia group messaging and more.
“Motorola is leveraging its technology leadership to help both wireless and wireline carriers achieve long-term success,” said Raghu Rau, corporate vice president, global marketing and strategy for Motorola's Networks business. “Our participation in the SIP Center illustrates our dedication to deliver the proven, open solutions operators need to migrate to fully converged networks and bring new revenue-generating services to customers.”
Motorola expects the development and adoption of SIP technology – particularly in IMS – to flourish in 2005 and to help shape new generations of telecommunication.
