Lucent Technologies to Highlight IMS, IPTV, Hosted VoIP, WiMAX and Converged Core Solutions at VON Trade Show in San Jose12 March 2006
At the VON trade show in San Jose next week, Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) will highlight in its booth and in conference presentations key next generation communications solutions that service providers are deploying and trialing in networks globally.
In booth 1727, the company will demonstrate Caller ID on TV with Call Handling, one of Lucent's IP Multimedia TV Solutions -- powered by its IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) -- which integrate telephony, web, TV and mobile capabilities, and can be delivered to subscribers anytime, anywhere. Enabled by the Lucent Service Broker(TM) (part of Lucent Bell Labs IMS Service Enhancement Layer), this demonstration will show how consumers can receive Caller ID messages on TV and control their calls with options including sending the call to voice mail or canceling the call right from their TV screen.
The IPTV/IMS demo is one example of a blended lifestyle service, which is the result of blending multiple applications to create a personalized service that offers greater benefit to the end user.
Lucent has 77 product and application trials involving elements of its IMS service architecture with 16 wireline and wireless service providers globally, including an extensive lab trial with Verizon. Lucent has announced IMS contracts with carriers in the United States, Europe and China.
At VON, Lucent also will highlight its Hosted VoIP for Enterprise Solution and its Converged Voice for Enterprise Solution. Sprint today announced (please see separate Sprint news release) the launch of Sprint IP Voice Connect service that offers enterprises a hosted VoIP solution. The service is supported by Lucent's Hosted VoIP for Enterprise offer through its Global Network Operations Centers. Sprint plans to deploy additional integrated wireline and wireless capabilities during 2006, using the Lucent Converged Voice for Enterprise Solution to provide subscribers all of the features of their office PBX system on their mobile phones.
The company's services unit, Lucent Worldwide Services, also will demonstrate a variety of applications over a wireless infrastructure, such as RFID scanning and thumb printing, as well as seamless data roaming between LAN, EVDO and Wi-Fi(R)* IP networks.
The communications solutions provider will show how Lucent AnyPath(R) end user applications can enable flexible, simplified communication using natural voice and web-based commands: voice commands to manipulate a unified messaging inbox, including read, listen, save, delete, forward or reply, and make voice activated dialing; web access for a person to check their mailbox on the Lucent AnyPath(R) Messaging System, allowing an individual to playback voice messages on PC-based media players. The AnyPath(R) system can provide carriers with the unified communications applications that seamlessly interoperate with complementary technologies to help individuals manage their voice, video and data communications. The system supports more than 63 million subscribers in service provider networks globally.
The company's applications, among them the AnyPath(R) platform, have been deployed by more than 50 wireline and wireless operators in 23 countries globally. Lucent Bell Labs Service Enhancement Layer
Lucent's Service Enhancement Layer is a library of Bell Labs software assets that work across wireless and wireline networks to simplify and speed delivery of services. The Service Enhancement Layer takes Lucent's IMS implementation beyond the standard IMS architecture, offering distinct advantages over competing IMS implementations by enhancing data management, providing access to data outside a service provider's network and enhancing SIP processing.
