Logitech Adds Laser Mouse, Enhanced Bluetooth Wireless Technology to Award-Winning diNovo Design16 August 2005
Logitech (SWX:LOGN) (NASDAQ:LOGI), the world's leading manufacturer of cordless computer peripherals, today unveiled the Logitech(R) diNovo(TM) Media Desktop(TM) Laser, the next generation of the company's flagship mouse-and-keyboard combination, featuring state-of-the-art Logitech(R) MX(TM) laser mouse technology, enhanced Bluetooth(R) wireless hub functionality, and an award-winning, sophisticated design.
The new Logitech(R) diNovo(TM) Media Desktop(TM) Laser continues the company's innovative diNovo Media Desktop design, which complements the sharp angles and slim profile of today's flat-panel monitors with an ultra-thin, angular keyboard and detached MediaPad(TM). The new product features an eye-catching metallic-silver finish with deep blue accents.
Functionally, the Logitech diNovo Media Desktop Laser turns an ordinary PC into a wireless hub with the improved Bluetooth 2.0 Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) technology. Bluetooth 2.0 EDR enables a faster exchange of information between two devices; for example, people can more quickly transmit a picture from a mobile phone or camera to the PC with Bluetooth 2.0 EDR; and they can experience higher quality voice-over-IP (VoIP) phone calls on their PC using a headset with Bluetooth 2.0 EDR.
The product features the award-winning Logitech(R) MX(TM)1000 Cordless Laser Mouse, which delivers precision navigation with its laser illumination and tracking technology. Logitech's groundbreaking laser technology instantly elevated the standalone Logitech MX1000 Cordless Laser Mouse to one of the company's best-selling products when it was introduced last year.
"The core philosophy behind our diNovo Media Desktop has always been to provide an elite blend of form and function for the most sophisticated modern-day desktops," said Denis Pavillard, Logitech vice president of product marketing for desktops. "This diNovo Media Desktop Laser sets its owner apart, with avant-garde design and an extraordinary feature set. With the addition of Bluetooth 2.0 EDR and our laser mouse, this product offers new levels of performance for those living on the cutting edge of today's digital lifestyle."
MediaPad Enhances Media Control, Frees People From Desk
To provide an unparalleled media experience with the diNovo Media Desktop Laser solution, Logitech provides a detached, multi-purpose MediaPad, which serves as a traditional number pad and a remote commander for enjoying music, video and photos -- even when people step away from the desk, to as far as 60 feet away. The diNovo MediaPad includes an interactive display that shows music track information. It offers control of today's most popular media players, including Musicmatch(R), iTunes(R), Windows(R) Media Player 10 and Winamp 5. To make the media control experience even easier, the new diNovo Media Desktop solution includes Logitech(R) MediaLife(TM) software, which combines music tracks, digital pictures and videos into a single full-screen interface.
The versatile interactive display on the MediaPad also shows incoming instant messages and e-mails, as well as the status of instant messenger buddies. And, in addition to its traditional function as a keyboard number pad, the MediaPad can be used as a standalone calculator.
MX Laser Tracking for Premium Performance
Logitech was the first company to introduce a mouse with laser tracking. The precise nature of laser light allows a laser mouse to see much greater surface detail than a typical optical mouse with a red light-emitting diode (LED). This means that a laser mouse tracks more accurately and will work on a wider variety of surfaces. The MX laser engine's sensor has the ability to capture 5.8 megapixels of detail each second. As with all Logitech laser products, the mouse's laser light is nearly invisible and meets the Class 1 safety standard.
The Logitech laser mouse is also rechargeable -- the Logitech diNovo Media Desktop Laser comes with a convenient mouse charging station.
The Next Step in Bluetooth Wireless
Bluetooth 2.0 EDR provides up to three times higher data rates than previous versions of Bluetooth technology; other wireless devices with Bluetooth 2.0 EDR will be able to transmit more data more quickly while connected to the PC through the Logitech diNovo Media Desktop Laser. The Logitech diNovo Media Desktop Laser is also backward compatible with other mobile devices that use older implementations of Bluetooth. With Logitech's Bluetooth mice and keyboards, people can conduct voice over IP with a Bluetooth headset, transfer pictures and contacts from a Bluetooth mobile phone, listen to music through Bluetooth headphones, and synchronize important data between mobile devices and the PC -- all without the hassle of connecting USB cords or any other kinds of wires.
Pricing and Availability
The Logitech diNovo Media Desktop Laser will be available in October in the U.S. and Europe. The desktop has a suggested retail price of $199.99 in the U.S.
