Indiana Firm Launches Voice over IP (VoIP) Service, Partners with Covad for Virtual PBX

5 February 2005

CompStar Technologies, Inc., announced that it has been appointed as an authorized Voice over IP Dealer by Covad, a national leader in Voice over IP (VoIP) communications. CompStar, with offices in Indianapolis and Mishawaka, IN, has nearly a decade of experience in network design and management, and, in conjunction with its parent, Direct Line Communications, has extensive experience in both telephony and sharing voice and data infrastructure.

CompStar and Covad are teaming up to offer industry leading voice over IP solutions, like the vPBX ™ Virtual PBX, which allows companies to eliminate their costly phone switch hardware and related maintenance costs. Sometimes knows as "IP Centrex" or "virtual phone switch", this technology replaces complex phone switch hardware with simple routers; calls travel over standard network cabling to IP phones . These phones can be plugged into any network port and will be recognized by a unique identifier. One key savings is the elimination of the cost associated with "moves, adds, and changes", i.e., the costs of configuring phone wiring and the switch itself whenever a phone user changes office locations. The "phone switch" functions in virtual PBX installations are easily configured by the administrator using a graphic interface, while the system itself is located at a Covad operations center. In essence, vPBX represents an outsourced phone switch.

For companies who prefer to keep their phone switch hardware, Covad PBXi ™ , which allows integration of existing phone switch hardware with VoIP technology.

The benefits of a Covad VoIP solution from CompStar include lower usage costs and a high level of flexibility. Employees who work outside the office can easily be integrated into the system and can both receive calls on their mobile or home phone, work with their voicemail, etc. Remote offices can be easily integrated as well – dialing from one city to another is as easy as dialing an extension. For a more detailed description of how VoIP works, visit http://www.compstar.com/voip/voip.htm .

Early VoIP systems weren"t always reliable, and conversations were sometimes scratchy or inconsistent. Covad realized that a company"s phone system is its lifeblood, and established its own managed, national broadband network to offer the same business-class voice quality of traditional phone service. This allows Covad to offer quality of service (QoS) standards and service level agreements (SLA).

To assist Indiana and Michigan businesses in evaluating the benefits of using Voice over IP, CompStar and Covad will offer two free VoIP seminars (pre-registration required):
Indianapolis, IN VoIP Seminar: March 31, 2005 (Indianapolis Marriott North)
South Bend / Mishawaka / Elkhart VoIP seminar: March 29, 2005 (Morris Park Country Club).
Contact CompStar Technologies at http://www.compstar.com or 574-259-6000 for more information about Covad VoIP or to register for a seminar.
