Hacom Introduced Nehemiah-Based 1U Rackmount29 March 2005
Hacom introduced the 1u rackmount, model RM1U CV860A3R10N, as a short-depth computing hardware platform for deployment of custom Firewall/VPN routers or Voice over IP (VoIP) telephony servers.
Featuring three ( 3 ) Realtek RTL8100B 10/100M Ethernet LAN ports, the 1U device is designed for a standard firewall with its WAN, LAN and DMZ partitions. Through its Padlock Advanced Cryptography Engine ( ACE ), the VIA Nehemiah CPU can encrypt better or on par with hardware-based AES devices, making it well-suited for embedded VPN gateway, or firewall device, to implement secure site-to-site links between multiple networks. The software can be loaded via a Type I/II compact flash or traditional EIDE hard drive.
At only 1 rack unit height and a short 7 inch depth, this platform is also an excellent choice for clusters or other applications where server density is important to reduce the need for costly datacenter space.
"The 1U device complements very well our OpenBrick product family. Through the use of flash memory, system integrators can automate generation of system configurations and quality assurance of complex Linux based solutions. The 1U device can easily change its personality, be it router, firewall, VPN, NAS or any open-source based business appliances," commented Bao Ha, President of Hacom.
Pricing starts at $399.99 for the RM1U CV860A3R10N. A complete demo IPCop 1.4 firewall appliance system, with RAM and compact flash, starts at $459.99.
