Firetide and Wireless Hotspot, Inc. Unwire Los Angeles Holiday Inn9 February 2005
Firetide, Inc., a leader in wireless mesh networking, and Wireless Hotspot, Inc., a wireless network systems integrator, today announced the deployment of a Firetide mesh network at the Holiday Inn located in downtown Los Angeles, in Los Angeles City Center.
"This marks the third recent deployment at a Holiday Inn for Firetide, having deployed mesh networks in two Holiday Inns last November," said Bo Larsson, CEO of Firetide. "We're building out networks in a variety of hospitality environments such as hotels, marinas, airports, convention centers, and municipalities, where structured wiring such as Ethernet or fiber cabling is too difficult or costly to install."
"Wi-Fi in hotels has become an amenity that guests expect," said Joseph Hsieh, President of Wireless Hotspot, Inc. "Holiday Inn wanted to install wireless Internet access without inconveniencing guests or disrupting hotel operations. We installed the network using Firetide HotPoint™ wireless mesh routers in one day, delivering Internet access to the hotel's restaurant, bar and conference facility."
Wireless Hotspot is presenting a seminar on how to effectively deploy HSIA (high-speed Internet access) in hotels, resorts and other hospitality environments Tuesday, March 15 at the Holiday Inn - Los Angeles City Center. The seminar will feature Firetide mesh networks and Airpath network management tools.
Wireless Hotspot also deployed a Firetide mesh network in Downtown Culver City, in August 2004.
HotPoint Wireless Mesh Routers
Firetide's HotPoint™ wireless mesh routers use advanced routing technologies and IEEE 802.11-compliant radios to "unwire" the Ethernet backbone and create a self-configuring, self-healing mesh network. Firetide Instant Mesh Networks scale and self-configure instantly by simply plugging HotPoint units into standard AC power outlets, resulting in a simple and reliable alternative to standard Ethernet cable.
Firetide wireless mesh routers include the HotPoint 1000R and HotPoint 1500R models that are ruggedized to withstand outdoor environments, and the HotPoint 1000S and HotPoint 1500S designed for indoor operation. HotPoint 1000 products operate in the 2.4 GHz spectrum using 802.11b radios and HotPoint 1500 nodes operate in the high bandwidth 5 GHz spectrum. Outdoor and indoor products work together seamlessly, allowing wireless networks to span indoor and adjacent outdoor areas.
Firetide products are sold through channel partners including distributors, value added resellers (VARs), and systems integrators. For more information about HotPoint products, please visit www.firetide.com.
