EWE TEL selects Alcatel as system supplier for VoIP solution14 March 2005
EWE TEL will start the migration of the existing infrastructure to an IP-based next-generation network ( NGN ) as early as the beginning of 2005 in the German states of Lower Saxony, Bremen, and Brandenburg, setting a course for growth. "Alcatel was our first choice as a system supplier for a next generation network with a future-oriented architecture - not least because we had good experiences with the test installations in our existing infrastructure," EWE TEL managing director Dirk Thole explained.
A core component of modern voice and multimedia services, Alcatel's Softswitch is a major part of upgrading an existing telecommunications network to a next generation network. It provides the capability to offer customers triple play services ( data/Internet, video/TV, voice/VoIP ) on a single platform.

The main components of the solution Alcatel is providing to EWE TEL are the Alcatel 5020 Softswitch and Alcatel 7510 Media Gateways, which provide the link between the worlds of voice and data. At the heart of the new network, the Alcatel 5020 Softswitch supports the latest in cost-effective voice and multimedia services such as VoIP, unified messaging, multimedia conferencing and IP centrex solutions.
