Colorado Goes Wireless: Internet Colorado Taps APconnections' AirEqualizer for Wireless Access Points Statewide6 August 2005
APconnections, a leading supplier of plug-and-play bandwidth shaping products, today announced that Internet Colorado, a Western Colorado-based Internet Service Provider (ISP), has selected its state-of-the-art AirEqualizer for more than 30-plus wireless access points statewide.
By using AirEqualizer, a self-contained power-over-Ethernet (PoE) wireless access point (AP) with built-in NetEqualizer technology, Internet Colorado is now able to control network congestion at its various APs, ensuring the highest quality wireless connectivity for its more than 50,000-plus Voice-over-IP (VoIP) and other priority Internet households across the state, with coverage spanning Montrose, Crested Butte, Mount Crested Butte, Gothic, Gunnison, Grand Junction, and Granby. Also of note, AirEqualizer offers users additional functionality such as ID/authentication, billing, re-direction, routing, and secure firewall protection.
According to Jason Swenson, president, Internet Colorado, "We depend on AirEqualizer to help us provide our customers with the highest level of wireless Internet connectivity and service at the lowest possible cost. Less than three weeks after our initial rollout, several customers let us know that they were very impressed and pleased with the dependability and speed of their new wireless connectivity, which they are now able to leverage for voice, data or other daily online activities."
Keith Brenise, of The Valley Insurance, who depends on Internet Colorado for both voice (VoIP) and data service, commented, "Shortly after signing up for Internet Colorado's wireless access program, we were shocked by the almost immediate return on our investment." He continued, "Not only were we able to lower our costs and operational expenses, but our team has been able to offer an even higher level of customer service. Advanced functionality, great wireless Internet connectivity and a high return on our investment - Internet Colorado's program has it all!"
"We are proud to welcome Internet Colorado into the APconnections family and look forward to a long, mutually beneficial relationship," said Art Reisman, CTO and founder of APconnections. "With AirEqualizer, we have helped change the economics of delivering quality wireless services; built-in equalizing eliminates brownouts and lockups, while at the same time allowing 25-40% more users to connect to a single AP."

About Air-NetEqualizer The APconnections family of plug-and-play traffic shaping products delivers automated bandwidth control based on built-in fairness rules. Air- NetEqualizer products make control decisions dynamically, prioritizing and shifting bandwidth between applications and connections depending upon shifts in network usage. During times of peak congestion, Air-NetEqualizer portions more bandwidth for latency-sensitive applications such as VoIP and business-class applications, including CRM and ERM, while still enabling non-critical data traffic such as large file downloads to traverse the network. This approach ensures user satisfaction and allows APconnections' customers to reduce both bandwidth and operational expenses. Unlike alternatives, Air-NetEqualizer products install in minutes and do not require the user to build and manage extensive policy libraries. The products seamlessly integrate with existing network infrastructure and do not require router upgrades or other network changes.
In addition, Air-NetEqualizer provides priority for all major IP-PBX products and supports recognition, protection and quality guarantees for vendor-specific VoIP applications (VSVA). VSVA goes beyond merely identifying generic VoIP protocols such as SIP, H323 and RTP, allows Air-NetEqualizer to recognize specific VoIP applications from third-party vendors, and assures Air-NetEqualizer customers that latency-sensitive VoIP traffic will not be impacted by bandwidth-intensive data traffic. Vendors currently recognized include Avaya, Cisco Systems, Nortel Networks, Siemens, Mitel Networks, Tenovis, Alcatel, NEC, Inter-Tel, Toshiba, 3Com, Shore Tel, Vertical Networks, Ericsson, EADS Telecom, Philips Business Communications and Aastra Technologies.
