Coaxsys, Inc. Announces Gary Hoffman to Head Business Development25 March 2005
Coaxsys Incorporated, the leader in IPTV Networking, today announced that Gary Hoffman has joined the company as Vice President of Business Development. Hoffman has been employed by Coaxsys as a consultant since 2004. Gary’s charter is to establish Coaxsys’ market leading TVnet as the connectivity standard for Internet Protocol Television (IPTV).
Hoffman is perhaps best known for his activity with the IEEE 1394 Trade Association (1394 aka FireWire), which he founded in 1993. The Trade Association established a significant standard for digital television under his leadership. Now, Hoffman believes that he can bring his standards-setting experience to bear in the IPTV market.
“The reality is that IP and Ethernet are winning in the home just as they have won in so many other market segments,” Hoffman noted, referring to the rapid growth of IP television and telephony services. “IEEE1394 established standards for quality of service, ease of use, high performance, and an affordable architecture for multimedia applications. Coaxsys’ TVnet brings these same benefits to IP applications such as IPTV, VOIP, and PCs.”
Operators use TVnet™ to quickly and reliably deploy IPTV services to their customers. TVnet is the leading solution for in-home IPTV distribution over existing TV coaxial wiring. TVnet requires no new software, no costly home rewiring, no new network management, and the adapters’ plug-and-play characteristics fit well into Hoffman’s vision for an IPTV standard.
“Coaxsys’ product is well-positioned to fill the need that we currently see for in-home networking. Right now, TVnet is the best—and most affordable—technology going,” offered Hoffman. His role at Coaxsys will include identifying new uses for the company’s TVnet technology, licensing TVnet, and working with industry leaders to drive standards that will help consumers.
Coaxsys CEO, Michael D’Addio, expressed his enthusiasm over Hoffman’s addition: “During his career, Gary has had the ability to understand industry needs long before it was understood by the rest of the market. I am certain that Gary will help take TVnet technology to the next plateau of acceptance and success.”
Hoffman has more than 25 years of experience in networking, semiconductor, and software companies. He spent nearly ten years at IBM Research prior to founding the IEEE 1394 Trade Association, and he founded Skipstone, Inc. in the mid-1990s to advance the 1394 standard.
