Cisco User Survey Rates VoIP and Routing #1 For Real-Time Business23 June 2005
Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) users are taking advantage of intelligent network technologies to move their business interactions closer to real time, according to a survey of attendees at the Cisco annual user conference in Las Vegas this week. Networkers is the most important user conference for networking professionals. Among the 6400 attendees are more than 677 Cisco Certified Internetworking Experts (CCIE), widely considered to be the industry's most rigorous IT certifications.
Attendees of the Cisco Networkers User Conference say routing and voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) are the most important technologies to enabling real-time interactions with customers. VoIP was the top-rated technology for facilitating real-time interactions among service providers, commercial customers and the partner community, with routing following as a second choice. For enterprises, routing was considered the most important technology for real-time interactions.
Networking experts are also using varying channels to access real-time information, as appropriate to their business. Fifty-seven percent of the respondents from small to mid-size commercial organizations indicated they are connecting PDAs to their networks, for immediate access to information in their small or medium-sized businesses. The survey also revealed that commercial organizations are larger adopters of PDA usage than enterprise or service provider businesses. Service providers, many of which are building or supporting WiFi hotspots as an adjunct to their business, are the most likely to connect to their internal networks from public WiFi points, a proven boost to real-time interactions.
According to Gartner's Ken McGee, group vice president and Gartner Fellow, "A real-time business detects and analyzes materially critical events the moment they occur to identify opportunities, avoid mishaps and minimize delays in its critical business processes."

"We're also able to share our design workload globally, doing real-time design collaboration and driving time out of the design process which makes a critical difference to our bottom line."
