BevComm Selects CopperCom CSX for Voice Over IP Services and to Meet Regulatory23 December 2004
BevComm, a telecommunications provider operating five independent companies in rural areas of Iowa and Minnesota, has deployed CopperCom's Converged Switching eXchange (CSX)(R) next-gen switch to meet regulatory mandates for Local Number Portability (LNP) and CALEA while they move to IP-based services.
BevComm-owned companies have provided communication services to business and residential customers in Southern Minnesota and North Central Iowa for more than 100 years. With the knowledge that compliance with LNP was a requirement and with a strategy to offer VoIP in the future, President and General Manager Bill Eckles opted to modernize BevComm's infrastructure with the most flexible and cost-efficient next-gen switching system on the market.
"We needed to handle LNP and CALEA compliance right away and it just didn't make sense to invest in antiquated twenty-year-old technology," Eckles recalls. "We evaluated multiple platforms and had the greatest comfort level with CopperCom and how well they understood our business. The switch integrated easily into today's network and gave us the ability to migrate to voice-over-IP."
With CopperCom's CSX performing Class 4, tandem switching throughout its 9K-line serving area since last spring, BevComm will begin migrating its legacy Class 5 network to CopperCom equipment this month. BevComm has been very pleased with the extensive Class 4 and Class 5 feature sets offered on the CSX and by its ability to transparently handle both IP and circuit-based communication services.
"We've been impressed with BevComm's commitment to bringing rural customers the latest features and highest quality of service," says Mel Ethem, vice president of sales at CopperCom. "Having a major service provider like BevComm choose the CSX to provide Class 4 and Class 5 services is continued validation of the ability for the CSX to serve any size carrier cost effectively with the most extensive feature set in the market today."
