BandTel Solves Throughput and Redundancy Problems on SIP-Based VoIP Networks With Its New N-Plus Architecture

25 July 2006

BandTel(tm), a leading global provider of next-generation VoIP termination to the PSTN for high volume telecom users such as Call Centers, Enterprise users, Teleconferencing Companies and Internet Voice Response (IVR) users, announced today it is transforming the VoIP industry with its revolutionary N-Plus(sm) architecture, designed to solve the throughput and redundancy problems on high capacity SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) -based networks.

BandTel's new N-Plus solution lifts the burden placed upon even the fastest servers by creating a clustered architecture that eliminates the need for numerous IP addresses on numerous SIP proxies. N-Plus also eliminates any single point of failure.

"The telecommunications industry, especially VoIP, has changed dramatically over the past several years as has the use of VoIP on large networks. As the technology and uses of that technology evolves, we face more and more stumbling blocks that need to be overcome," stated Peter Sandstrom, CTO of BandTel. "We recognized the problem facing high bandwidth environments, so we took the initiative to develop our N-Plus architecture in an effort to help organizations with high-transaction SIP networks solve redundancy and failure problems by providing a truly cost-effective, fault tolerant solution."

BandTel's N-Plus network is based on several pairs of DNS servers that direct the SIP calls to SIP Signaling Transfer Points (STPs), which in turn direct those SIP call on one of "N" SIP proxy's in the BandTel SIP proxy matrix.

This architecture allows BandTel to deploy any number of SIP proxies (N-Plus) to handle the load required for any given call to any given end point. There is no processing limit and no need for the user agents to hard code a carrier's proxy address into their network configuration schemas.

To address any issues related to registration and routing information, BandTel created "Synchronization" and "Registration" services, which run redundantly in real time, keeping registration and routing information current and equal across all BandTel proxies, thus creating a single virtual switching machine with unlimited call processing potential. BandTel also ties this back to the PSTN for advanced routing and termination/origination options.
