Attain Superior Voice Quality with Adaptive Digital's G.168 v8 Network Echo Canceller

28 February 2006

Adaptive Digital Technologies, Inc. (Adaptive Digital) announces the release of Version 8 of its G.168 network echo canceller software. Version 8 expands the functionality of the echo canceller (EC) to meet the varying needs in today's diverse telecommunication landscape.

There is much to be learned from the deployment of a network echo canceller in a wide variety of equipment over a span of many years. Among other things, Adaptive Digital has learned that there are applications, especially in the areas of Voice-Over-IP (VoIP) and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) that place unique demands on echo cancellers. For example, IVR applications that have simultaneous voice play-out and DTMF capture require echo cancellation that does not interfere at all with the detection of tones should the user input a keypad response while the prompt is still playing out. Version 8 is Adaptive Digital's answer to this and other market demands.

Six years ago, Adaptive Digital upgraded its G.165 echo canceller to meet the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) G.168 recommendation. Two years later, Adaptive Digital submitted its echo canceller for validation testing at AT&T's Voice Quality Laboratory in Middletown, New Jersey. AT&T's Voice Quality Assessment Lab evaluated the echo canceller using its stringent series of performance tests including AT&T's proprietary Mean Opinion Score (MOS) subjective tests as well as the standardized set of G.168 objective tests. The subjective and objective performance of Adaptive Digital's echo canceller surpassed even the performance of AT&T's benchmark lab echo cancellers.

Nevertheless, the rigorous testing undergone by Adaptive Digital's G.168 EC at the AT&T labs in 2002 did not encompass all of the requirements set forth by today's diverse telephone applications. With version 8, Adaptive Digital strives to meet the current and future requirements of service providers, system integrators and developers, bringing superior voice quality to speech-based applications. By continually evolving their echo cancellation algorithm, Adaptive Digital strives to increase the differentiation between their EC and those of their competitors.

Adaptive Digital's G.168 v8 echo canceller is available in both short tail (Line) and long tail (Network) variants, Adaptive Digital's EC software currently runs on Texas Instruments Incorporated's (TI) power efficient TMS320C5000(TM) DSP platform and the high-performance TMS320C6000(TM) DSP platform. The software is offered in library format and as fixed point C- reference code.

Adaptive Digital's G.168 v8 is included in the base algorithm set of their newest product, the G.PAK(TM) Open Source option of the well-established G.PAK(TM), a VoIP software application framework. Additionally, G.168 v8 is an integral component in ipPhoneChip(TM), and Adaptive Digital's Conferencing Chips.
