Aruba Networks Announces VoIP Interoperability Alliances for Voice Over Wireless LAN Deployments

13 December 2005

Aruba Networks, the Mobile Edge Company, today announced interoperability alliances with three leaders in the Voice over IP (VoIP) industry in order to ensure maximum performance and interoperability for enterprises deploying Voice over Wireless LAN (VoWLAN). Specifically, Aruba is announcing certification with SpectraLink, a leader in workplace Wi-Fi telephony, interoperability validation with Vocera Communications, a leader in enterprise wireless voice solutions, and Innovator membership in the Avaya DeveloperConnection program.
"VoWLAN is the logical next step for enterprise communications," stated Peter Thornycroft, product manager for Aruba's VoWLAN solutions. "The flexibility and cost savings inherent in delivering voice over the wireless infrastructure already in place promises to give enterprises the ability to enhance mobility while continuing to streamlining their network."
Combined with Aruba's unique Voice Flow Classification capability (see companion release -- "Aruba Networks Announces Mobile Voice over IP Enhancements to the Enterprise Mobile Edge"), these alliances enable Aruba to deliver the industry's most comprehensive enterprise VoWLAN solution. Aruba has strategically engaged with leaders delivering innovative handsets and endpoint devices, as well as IP PBX technology, to enterprises around the world.
Aruba's relationship with Avaya, a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services and the global market leader in IP telephony, is an excellent example. Avaya designs, builds and manages communications networks for more than 1 million businesses worldwide, including over 90 percent of the FORTUNE 500(R).
The Avaya DeveloperConnection program Aruba has joined promotes the development, compliance testing and co-marketing of innovative third-party products that are compatible with standards-based Avaya solutions. Member organizations have expertise in a broad range of technologies that includes IP telephony, contact centers and mobility applications -- helping companies extend the value of multivendor networks and transform voice into a business application that delivers true value to the bottom line.
"Our Avaya developer community has become a catalyst for rapid innovation and the creation of new multivendor applications that help enterprises around the world embed secure, reliable communications capabilities into the fabric of their business -- making their people more productive, processes more intelligent and customers more satisfied," said Eric Rossman, vice president, Developer Relations and Technical Alliances, Avaya.
Additionally, Aruba's innovative access points and mobility controllers have obtained Voice Interoperability for Enterprise Wireless (VIEW) Certification from SpectraLink. SpectraLink is a leader in workplace Wi-Fi telephony, and its VIEW Certification Program ensures call quality and overall performance of SpectraLink handsets in a WLAN environment, including performance in the presence of QoS stress-inducing data traffic. During the VIEW certification testing, Aruba achieved the highest simultaneous call count of any WLAN vendor tested to date.
"Aruba has demonstrated a commitment to delivering innovative, industry-leading WLAN and VoWLAN solutions for large-scale enterprises," said Geri Mitchell-Brown, director of business development at SpectraLink. "SpectraLink VIEW Certification provides customers further assurances regarding the interoperability and performance of SpectraLink NetLink Wireless Telephones operating on an Aruba mobility infrastructure."
Aruba has also completed interoperability and compatibility validation with Vocera's line of voice communication badges -- wearable voice-controlled devices, allowing instant communication over a WLAN. The testing demonstrated interoperability for Vocera's Communication System.
"Vocera, like Aruba, has been highly successful in the healthcare market, and we already have a number of joint deployments," said Niraj Jain, Director of Business Development at Vocera. "The successful interoperability validation provides a lab verification of what we've already seen in real-world applications; Vocera badges function seamlessly over an Aruba mobility infrastructure."
