Agilent Technologies Introduces First VoIP Call-Trace Signaling Analyzer for End-to-End Troubleshooting24 October 2005
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A - News) today unveiled the first voice-over-IP (VoIP) call trace signaling analyzer that can uniquely identify complex signaling problems end-to-end across multiple voice technologies such as VoIP over broadband, legacy SS7, 2G, 2.5G or 3G mobile networks. Problem identification time is reduced to a few seconds, enabling laboratory and field service engineers to minimize VoIP service downtime and bring services into operation faster. VoIP has grown significantly and is now used for nearly every type of telephony service, including enterprise communications, local, long-distance, international and wholesale. Additional growth of VoIP is now being driven by new broadband triple-play services, wireless services deployed on IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks, and push-to-talk over cellular. Testing a call that traverses multiple network architectures can be extremely time-consuming due to complex setup and configuration requirements. The Agilent J7844A signaling analyzer VoIP can automatically detect, capture and trace call signaling across multiple points in a network and across multiple telephony technologies in only a few seconds.
A call initiated by a customer today could originate from the PSTN and terminate on a 3G mobile phone. A call like this can be expected to traverse SS7, through a VoIP network via IMS, prior to reaching the UMTS network. The Agilent J7844A allows customers to troubleshoot signaling problems during any leg of the call. Coupled with Agilent's robust local and distributed test platform, any customer connectivity issues can be efficiently and effectively resolved, thereby resuming service and revenue.
"Adding the VoIP technology to the signaling analyzer platform puts a complete end-to-end tool in customers' hands, perfect for today's complex networks," said Steve Warntjes, general manager of the Network Systems Test Organization. "By using the signaling analyzer VoIP, customers can understand within three mouse-clicks where to troubleshoot the problems, automatically filtering unsuccessful calls from other traffic."
There are many parameters and combinations users must know if they are to troubleshoot effectively without call trace. Signaling analyzer VoIP saves time and aggravation, allowing users to spend more time solving the problem than finding out what or where it is.
Benefits of the signaling analyzer VoIP include:
Multi-technology -- the ability to trace a single call through VoIP, SS7, SS7/IP, 2G, 2.5G and 3G mobile networks, which simplifies resolution of the most complex interoperability problems in telephony. Real-time call trace, which ties together messages for each call and tracks each call across multiple points in a network to indicate where anomalies and failures occur. Includes patented phase graphics presentation and sequencing diagrams. Call statistics and Key Performance Indicators, which provide visibility into the performance of the network in setting up and completing calls. Multi-user capability, which extends the value of the solution by supporting multiple users' needs and applications with a single hardware deployment, thereby reducing operating expense. Ability to use in combination with the Agilent telephony network analyzer, enabling customers to measure VoIP quality in addition to the signaling analysis covering the media and signaling plane that contributes to VoIP. Ability to run on the very successful Agilent distributed network analyzer (DNA), DNA PRO and DNA MX platforms to leverage the same hardware used for data analysis, which enables customers to get even greater benefits from their investment in test tools.
