ActVoIP Introduces OnePhoneLine for Fixed/Mobile Convergence

20 October 2005

ActVoIP Networking Corporation, a provider of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology, today introduced a complete solution for fixed/mobile convergence. The ActVoIP software solution, named OnePhoneLine, is aimed at ensuring indoor mobile coverage through seamless handover between cellular and local area networks (LAN) or public switched telephone networks (PSTN).

The spotty and unreliable indoor and rural cellular coverage is replaced by always-on wireless local area network (WLAN) access as the OnePhoneLine system handover live calls between networks with no service interruption. Due to the company’s patent-pending session handover technique, ActVoIP’s solution improves business availability and mobility, thus boosting productivity and reducing cost of lost business opportunities.

“ActVoIP users conduct business over mobile phones, roaming between cellular and Wi-Fi (802.11), in and out of office/home without missing a word”, said Dror Bukai, ActVoIP President. “Techniques such as our handover controller dramatically improve business connectivity by allowing employees to use dual-mode cellular/Wi-Fi mobile phones at the office, on the road or at home. Unlike the current cumbersome and inefficient disparate phone systems approach, ActVoIP’s ‘1 + 1 + 1 = One’ approach promises less communications hassle through one integrated system.”

ActVoIP is the only company that can offer consolidation of disparate telephone systems through seamless handover between networks with no reliance on cellular network infrastructure. Although unlicensed mobile access (UMA) is aimed at achieving seamless Wi-Fi/cellular handover, it neglects all other means of communications and ties a solution to a cellular infrastructure, thus excluding it from independent service providers' offerings. The ActVoIP Handover Controller Server is configurable to meet the specific needs of service providers, enterprises and end-users. It leverages the field proven I-Link Softswitch technology and meets standard SIP and PSTN peering requirements and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) open architecture guidelines. Successfully deployed by service providers since 1998, the ActVoIP technology has gained recognition for its standards-based resilient architecture, and for fostering growth at the lowest possible total cost of ownership.
“ActVoIP’s technology makes fixed/mobile convergence a reality,” said Dror Bukai. “As dual-mode Cellular/Wi-Fi phones mature for high volume production, the use of OnePhoneLine is very cost effective. Service providers protect their investment by deploying a field-proven yet innovative solution that will allow them to service their subscribers now and for many years to come without worry of technology obsolescence. I believe seamless handover between communication networks marks an important leap forward for business telephony economics; our ‘1 + 1 + 1 = One’ framework means that less is more”.
About ActVoIP

ActVoIP develops and markets Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Softswitch and Unified Communications products that have been developed and successfully deployed by I-Link and Acceris Communications since 1996 in service provider environments worldwide. ActVoIP has developed a breakthrough media over packet data session handover technology aimed at dramatically reducing the overall communications cost and hassle experienced by business people. By innovative use of location and usage pattern information, ActVoIP’s technology enables immediate routing and re-routing of sessions to the most appropriate communication device at any given time. With its unique technology, which was successfully proven and validated by customers, the company is positioned to become the preferred fixed / mobile convergence solution for independent service providers, targeting the emerging dual-mode cellular/Wi-Fi subscribers market.

ActVoIP Networking Corporation is a privately held company, founded in 2005 as a spin-out from Acceris Communications. Headquartered in Fremont California; ActVoIP also maintains a research and development facility in Eatontown, New-Jersey.
